American Inns of Court are designed to improve the skills, professionalism and ethics of the bench and bar. The local chapter was established by the Saint Louis University School of Law in 2010. It is named after Theodore McMillian, one of the first African-Americans admitted to the Saint Louis University School of Law in the 1940s and the first African-American to serve on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The St. Louis chapter of the Inns of Court has more than 80 members, including state and federal judges, attorneys, law school students, and other members of the legal community. Its focus is on facilitating a sense of community in the legal profession, as well as promoting best practices among members of the bar. The American Inns of Court meets once a month to discuss matters pertinent to the profession and the local community. Bob Blitz joins approximately 25 others who serve as Master members. Masters in the Inn typically have more than 20 years of experience and are judges, law professors, or distinguished lawyers in the community.
