St. Louis law firm Blitz, Bardgett & Deutsch civil litigation attorney Chris Bauman, assisted by other firm litigation team members, successfully represented a North Saint Louis County church in an appeal to the Missouri State Tax Commission (“STC”) asserting that the church’s property qualified for a property tax exemption. BB&D attorney Paul Woody filed testimony with the STC showing that the property was being used for charitable purposes consistent with the church’s mission and therefore the building qualified for a tax exemption. After reviewing the testimony, the County Assessor agreed to stipulate to the exemption. As a result of the settlement, the church will be able to continue its ongoing relationship with the building’s tenant, the YWCA, which uses the building to operate the Head Start Program for children throughout North County.
